Forming the new crossing
Woops - apologies for any inconvenience!
Site cabins removed, groundsmen levelling what will be the Car Park
Turf down, planters in place, landscapers doing really well looking great!
Railings arrived
Rear pathway being tidied and finished
Front door complete with cladding and feature brickwork
Hoarding down - it's like a grand reveal!
Site cabins all gone, Car Park laid and painted - gardeners working hard to complete
Flooring down and paint complete, bit of a mop and we are done! We fitted special wide switches in a grey colour for those tenants who may have some sight or dexterity issues, white would have been more difficult to see
Snagging underway to ensure everything works, is finished well and no unsightly marks on walls etc. We want our development to look wonderful for the tenants
This bedroom has had a clean - looks really good
Externals getting some attention now - being levelled and flags arrived
Lovely wide corridors
Corner apartment in the sunshine
Top floor corridor
Tiling to the kitchens finish the look
Communal Lounge windows being fitted - all the wooden pallets shown stacked in the distance were donated to both the school and charities who make items for sale from them, and anyone who needed them they were not destroyed
Looking to the rear of the Communal Lounge, to the right will have a brew station and storage room to enable tenants to have various activities - looking a little wet but thats normal until windows are fitted and roof becomes water tight
Looking a bit messy to the outsider but all going really well externally
Kitchen installation moving on quickly
Scaffolding almost down on the outside - looking really good
View from driveway entrance looking across what will be the Car Park - the grey block is where the feature wall and cladding will be installed. To the left corner is the Communal Lounge window
Plastering going well
Beginning mist coating - this is the first coat of paint over the plaster, and is when you can see all of the drawings pored over during the last couple of years come to fruition and turn into proper rooms!
Apex roof looking complete - all taking shape now
Lovely patio windows and door fitted on the ground floor
Roof tiles going on - good weather too!
Meanwhile the inside is taking shape - all looking a little murky but will be a great size
What a difference a day makes! Windows fitted to upper floor, overlooking Bidston Primary School
Corner apartment window looking towards the Church, will be a favourite when finished!
Ready for the windows to go in
I hope everyone had a wonderful festive season - but back to work for our Contractors! We are now seeing the roof frames being put in (Top Right)
Stormy skies in Bidston!
Things move very quickly once the bricklayers get to work - we are now at roof level
Surprising how quickly the building takes shape once you start on the walls! You can just see the Primary School pictures posted in frames on the hoarding - how lovely
Even more so when you get inside
Now that we have some floors we can begin the interior blockwork
August saw the floor structure going in
It was also them month of the results of a small competition our Contractors ran with Bidston Primary School. Safety is always paramount on a building site and to feed inquisitive minds and to help children understand the dangers, we asked the teachers to explain what was happening behind the hoarding and if the children could design some safety posters to put on the hoarding. This hopefully would allay any fears that a child's imagination can come up with. There were so many wonderful pictures and both ourselves and our Contractors donated a sum of money to the winners of the competition, myself and our Contractors Site Manager Bill Davies were there to see the children received their vouchers.
The children were constructing a rockery within the school grounds so as we cleared the site some of the sandstone bricks were given to the school for their rockery. A couple of the Contractors did the honours!
Setting out the lay of the site and laying the foundations is always exciting as we can start to see the scale of the build.
The rear apartments are now taking shape and the square base of the lift shaft can be seen
Then we moved onto the front apartments
Piling begins on the site - Apologies to all the close neighbours this stage does get a little noisy! The piles are put in place to ensure the stability of the building when constructing - in this case the bed rock was beneath sandstone which is very porous so we made sure that the construction would always be solid.
The site of our Bidston Scheme is situated on the grounds of the old Corsair pub. This was once a very active and interesting venue, but it had closed down and stood derelict for some time before being demolished. VVHC purchased the vacant land and with its partners and Wirral Borough Council set about making the site useable and productive for the residents of the local area.
The hoarding being erected - very excited to begin this new development
The clear up begins
And the site cabins are erected
